Life at Skanov Monastery

Pachomius was associated with the Holy Trinity Skanov Monastery, a community in the Penza region of central Russia, where he lived as a monk and served as a hieromonk — a monk ordained to the priesthood.

His monastic life unfolded in the early twentieth century, a period in which Russian monasteries faced closure and clergy faced increasing pressure under the new Soviet state.

Martyrdom and glorification

During the intensified anti-religious campaigns of 1937, Pachomius was arrested and condemned to death. He is honored as a martyr who did not renounce his faith under persecution.

He was glorified among the Synaxis of New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia, the assembly of those who suffered for the faith under Soviet rule, and is commemorated on September 7.
