Life
Marciana, also called Markiane, was a Byzantine empress, the wife of the emperor Justin I the Elder, who reigned from 518 to 527. She is venerated for her piety and commemorated on January 27.
By the accounts she was distinguished for her devout life, her ascetic discipline, and her love and care for the poor. She came to a peaceful end and was buried in the church of the Holy Apostles at Constantinople.
